Hi, my name is Christian Knight. Mother of Yanni and Yurric Smith. On 6/22/23, Yurric at 3.5 months old was diagnosed with mod/severe plagiocephaly and brachycephaly with torticollis causing him to favor one side of his body creating a curve and flatness of his skull and can possibly cause shortening of the neck muscles as well if untreated. This condition began in utero with little to no way of preventing this from happening. Doc Band treatment has been recommended now as he is the perfect age to start treatment. Delaying this treatment could put baby through more of a struggle than necessary with risk of making little to no changes before the skull starts to harden. Sadly, we recently learned Yurric’s Medicaid will not be covering the costs of the Doc Band treatment of $2100 out of pocket nor covering the physical therapy and occupational therapies he will need.. weekly adjustments, PT an OT will not be paid time off at my job.. I am not typically one to ask for help but when it comes to getting treatment for my child in the quickest manner possible I have to do whatever I can to give him that opportunity. $1 is even one step closer to beginning treatment for this handsome little guy. Regular bills and needs do not let up. The financial burden the insurance not covering this is very heavy for us as we already are just doing the best we can to survive inflation and tough times etc. Update: 7/5/23 we were advised that Yurric will not only need 1 doc band but 2 of them as he will grow out of the first one. Insurance will not cover the second one either. We will have 3 apts weekly that will require me to take unpaid time off work each week putting my regular bills and needs behind..
