Do you want to be part of my research into drugs?

Hello Everyone!

My name is Christalla and I would really appreciate everyone to listen to my story and help in any way they can, even a share helps!

My Back ground
I have always been passionate about science, ever since secondary school I knew I wanted to make a change. My key interests were always around Crime and Justice, and potentially being able to prove what may not make sense through the help of Science. This therefore directed me onto the topic of Forensic Science. I soon became obsessed with watching many crime shows and wanted to be apart of this world (which I later found out is never as glamorous as movies!)

I got my GCSE grades which were too low for me to be accepted onto any A-Level subject module. This really effected the possibilities of me ever going to University. I later discovered I could take on a B-Tec of Applied science which can also get you into University, with a bit more work. So of course I pursued this and later on secured a place onto my dream course of Forensic Science at London South Bank University.

At London South Bank University  we covered many topic areas which were amazingly interesting and only made me enjoy the topic more. We focused around different biological fluid testing, including blood, semen and saliva (see attached image)
we also covered ballistics, crime scenes, and many experiments.  Law was also a key part of our learning . Commonly as Forensic Scientists you are asked to represent your findings in court.

The 3 years of my Undergrad were very exiting but very very challenging also.
For my dissertation I conducted some research around the analysis of DNA and how people can shed different quantities of DNA which can be due to various factors.
Ill insert come images of my dissertation (i wont go into this much however feel free to contact me separate if you are interested in any of my findings. Below ill insert a table of contents if any questions are related to a target areas.

I then went on to graduate with a First Class Honors In Forensic Science, This was really a dream for me as I always doubted myself, and all the hard work finally paid off.  Not only did I graduate with a First Class, but I was elected for the 'Best Graduating Student', which made me very overwhelmed with excitement
(moral of the story, if your grades are low and you are not accepted into somewhere, always persevere and work hard as YOU WILL get there, and I learnt this myself- never put yourself down)
ANDDDDD...... I GRADUATED!!

So you might be thinking why I have set up this Go-Fund-Me page.

Currently...
I got into the university of my dreams, Kings College London, and I am currently completing a MSc in Analytical Toxicology.
For anyone who doesn't know what toxicology is,  it is basically a discipline which combines chemistry, pharmacology, medicine and biology together to observe any adverse effects of chemical substances on living organisms. This can include a diagnosis and treatment to toxins.
I soon came to find out this was a high jump from my undergrad to post-grad, and had to self teach myself A LOT of chemistry to understand basic concepts... (still getting there, learning more as I go)
You may be wondering how this relates to my undergrad... and well toxicology is a key aspect in most living and dead situations. Samples are tested daily for the presence of drugs, these can include...
-Environmental (such as air pollution)
-Workplace testing
-Deaths including suicides and murder cases
-Unexplained deaths
-Overdoses
-Road Traffic incidents
and may more...
My key interests are focused around Post Morton Toxicology, where samples from someone who is deceased can be tested for various different drugs, which can help provide an explanation to a cause of death.

My need of help comes here... I must conduct a 3 month study, which I am wishing to conduct abroad, however I do not have the funding to do so.
I currently work 24 hours a week (3 days) along my full time masters degree (5 days a week), so I am trying to put away as much funding as I possibly can, however the majority of this is currently funding my current degree.

This would therefore mean I must try to find funding to help with living expenses, travel and scientific equipment which ill be using. As i will be outside of the UK , Ill have to leave my current job for a few months, which puts even more pressure funding this research.

I am hoping to be able to conduct my research (around the area of post Morton analysis) for 3 months abroad, ideally countries such as  America, Canada, Australia, Dubai... the list can go on as there are many great accredited Labs around the world. (any other suggestions would also be greatly appreciated)

My previous lectures always told me to travel to broaden my experience and to make a difference... this is what I wish to achieve, and with the potential help of you, I can potentially make a difference, and possibly uncover a new method for testing samples, which can help and uncover the many mysterious, sudden and unexplained deaths we so commonly read about.

As it currently stands, my research title is to be confirmed, along with the location, which  I am more than happy to keep everyone in the loop of. These studies will commence from mid may to mid august 2020, and I will post regular updates of my research to keep everyone who has helped, or is even interested, in the loop of my research.

unfortunately unless we put ourselves out there into the big world, many things are left unsolved, and I want to help change this in a small way, as much as  I can, with the help of everyone who can.

I would like to thank you all for reading, and even if you are not in a situation to help, please share, as this is more than enough:)

Thank you again for reading.
