Hello! I am an emerging director named Andy and I am fundraising to make a short film called "Do Bugs Have God?" which is about environmental anxiety, gender dysphoria and parent-child relationships. If you are reading this it means you are thinking about supporting my project financially which is actually very frickin' cool, so thank you! Below is a little more context about this strange little short film.
Logline A neurotic Brooklynite mother thinks her daughter's gender rebellion might be the sign of something more sinister and has questions- luckily, Infinite Possibilities Endocrinology Center has answers.
Synopsis In "Do Bugs Have God", a tick-borne Lyme variant causes gender dysphoria and altered hormone levels in infected youths. A Brooklyn single mother, Katherine, notices symptoms in her child, Calliope. Seized by the fear that Calliope might be transitioning into a boy, Katherine takes her to an out-of-state, anti-vax Doctor in the hopes of curing the “disease.” This is a Brooklyn not too far from our own: Katherine’s paranoia reflects anxieties around transgender youth, a hysteria that, in "Do Bugs Have God?" ends in misguided faux-medical practices. Brimming with sharp, timely humor, this fantastical exploration of queerness and childhood exposes the absurdity–and cruelty–of contemporary discourse around gender identity.
Thank you very much for reading through this. Any amount helps, and it will all go towards paying the people who embark on this collaboration with me.
with gratitude,
andy
