Help Shaye and Keith get back on their feet
Donation protected
On December 23, 2020, Shaye and Keith were on vacation in Florida with their children when Keith, while driving, suffered a stroke and began having seizures. Shaye was able to gain control of the car and bring it to a stop. Keith was immediately transported to a local hospital and he was admitted to the ICU. Shaye and the boys were not permitted inside the hospital to visit with him, and they have not seen him in person since.
There have been a number of ups and downs since being admitted. Shaye and her parents tested positive for Covid-19. Keith has been in and out of consciousness. He was diagnosed with Covid-19. Doctors suspected encephalitis or meningitis, and Keith endured a spinal tap; results were negative. Keith remains in the ICU. He was recently intubated and on a ventilator. The children are back in Ohio and haven't seen their mom and dad for several weeks. As you can imagine, it's been a very difficult time for the entire family.
Shaye has begun exploring the possibility of getting Keith back home, and is hopeful that she might be able to transport him herself. However, if she is not able to do that, the cost of medical transport will be at least $20,000. Once they arrive back home, she is going to be faced with finding a rehabilitation center for Keith and dealing with the large bills that are going to start piling up.
Shaye was my son's preschool teacher, and she and Keith have been there for us whenever we needed them. When I had surgery in 2016, Shaye brought my son home from school. When our kitchen sink leaked, Keith came running with a fan to help us out. These are good people who now find themselves in an impossible situation.
I am creating this GoFundMe page to help defray the astronomical costs that Keith's hospital stay has incurred. Neither of them has worked since before Christmas, and Keith is self employed, a fifth generation farmer. If you are able, I know that helping them with this financial burden will allow Shaye to focus on Keith and being with her children again. Please, share what you can.
