Hi, my name Is Marcy and Frankie is my sweet girl. On Wednesday night she passed a huge blood clot in her stool and I noticed huge bruises all over her body. They looked like bubbles of blood under her skin. I thought maybe she fell down the stairs when I went to the store earlier that day. We are visiting Georgia so I rushed her to the nearest emergency pet hospital here in Georgia. She stayed overnight and after various tests, cancer and tick born illnesses were ruled out. Thank God! Today she was diagnosed with ITP, with little to no blood platelets left in her body. Any bump or jump or even playing with her doggy friends would cause huge bruises. She had been playing fine with no signs of pain or injury so I never suspected anything health related. Had she not passed that stool I would have never known what was under her fur until her next bath time. I’m thankful for this diagnosis as it was the best case scenario. Anything is better than the C word. Frankie will now need to be on various medications for a bit to stabilize her as well as another medication for likely her whole life. She’ll also require follow ups to check her progress and continue testing her blood platelets. Though I’ve been told that she’ll need these meds all her life, I’m praying for a miracle to help her immune system not fight the blood platelets.
