Seizure Support Dog

A couple of years ago, I was diagnosed with Epilepsy. I had a seizure in the middle of the night and was completely unresponsive the next day causing my mother to call 911. Shortly after I was admitted to the hospital for the 72 hour EEG with video so that the neurologist could detect the types of seizures as well as how often I was having them. My first night there, I had 6 seizures.
How did I not know... Apparently epilepsy is something that can occur at any age. Luckily, I am currently living with my parents so if something should happen like the initial seizure, I won't be alone.
After seeing a Neuro-psychologist, he had suggested a seizure alert dog. Who knew there was such a thing, I most certainly did not. I would love to be on my own again. As a 40 year old who has lived on their own for the majority of their adult life, living with my parents has been quite the adjustment.
Since my seizures are all nocturnal, having this therapy dog would be absolutely amazing. They are trained to inform an emergency contact when a seizure occurs, they are trained to brace your fall should that happen during a seizure. They are also trained to bark or give kisses to wake and/or alert you.
I would absolutely love to be blessed with a service dog so that I can find some sense of normalcy. The cost of this dog can be anywhere from $28,000 - $38,000. There are just a few organizations that train these special dogs. The wait can be a few years, but it could take that long to raise the funds. The majority of these places assist with the fundraising efforts, some also have incredible donors that make generous contributions.
I have decided to sell my artwork, but some incredible friends and family have asked if there is a way to contribute without making a purchase. So here it is. I truly thank all of you for your support. I look forward to introducing my new family member when that time comes. For now, I am just working towards that goal!
