Help save Franklin

My name is Jason and I began fostering dogs for San Antonio Pets Alive in 2015. A year into it I fostered a dog that I picked up when he was only hours away from euthanasia. I had fostered many dogs before but this little guy was so different. He had a quirky little personality that was just infectious. The first night I had him a burrowed under the blanket and slept close to my chest and that’s when he stole my heart. I live alone with no children and Franklin became my very best friend. I’ve struggled with my mental health in the past and he was my reason to keep going when I wanted to give up. He was my light in the dark and my smile on the days I felt broken. Anyone who has met Franklin know how different his personality is and how he’s just the happiest dog they’ve ever seen. A year ago I lost my job and in the months following I was in a very deep hole financially and mentally. I attempted suicide in May of 2021. Afterwards I got help. Got a new job. And attempted to get back on my feet. The past few months I’ve experienced some set backs financially from getting my truck stolen to a dental infection I haven’t been able to address. In early February even though he’s been vaccinated Franklin caught distemper. Being the strong little guy he is he battled back to good health. On 3/20 I woke up one morning to see Franklin had several swelling in his neck and face. I promptly took him to the vet and overdrafted my account just to get him seen by a vet. He’s developed a abscess in his lymph node that has to be removed surgically. He’s still a relatively young dog (7 years) and he has so much more life to live and live to give. Watching him deteriorate in the following days is heart breaking and he deserves a chance to live. Franklin loves chewing on blankets when he gets nervous. Occasionally enjoying some ice cream. chasing around his favorite ball and showing me his favorite stuffed animals. he’s always been a show stopper at the dog parks. People who meet him know this dog is special. His personality is truly one of a kind. Even with his life in jeopardy he still wags his tail and shows signs of that happiness that’s always made him so special. I’m willing to do anything and everything to save him and be transparent. Please help Franklin. He deserves a chance to continue being a light in this world.
