Dear Robotics Enthusiasts and Future Supporters,
My name is Adam Knutsen I am a Math Teacher at Dorothy McElhinney Middle School. Dorothy McElhinney Middle School, we lovingly call DMMS, is located in beautiful Murrieta California. DMMS is designated as an Arts, Drama, and Dance school. We have such diverse students that some students who do not feel like Art, Drama, and Dance are their calling have been asking me about starting a robotics class as another possible elective for them. Our goal is to not only have a strong performing art school, but also build on the 21st century skills our students need utilizing STEM based program like Robotics. In order to start a robotics program at a school site it can be very costly.
We have decided to start a Robotics program at DMMS. DMMS will be using the VEX Robotics Curriculum to instruct students. This modular and project-based curriculum teaches the design process in an engaging, hands-on manner to help teachers challenge, motivate, and inspire their students. By moving students through an actual engineering project, students quickly understand the relevance of what they are learning.
Although we will receive funding from our school site to start this program it will not nearly cover all of the materials to start a great Robotics program. This is why I am asking businesses and individuals to donate whatever they can afford to help us get our feet on the ground. We have estimated a need of $18,000. We came to this amount because of our need for Swept Away Classroom Bundles ($4,999,99 each, 3 needed) and ROBOTC for VEX Robotics 4.x Classroom License (30-seat) ($599.00 each, 1 needed). Plus other odds and ends to start our program. Thank you in advance for reading our letter and helping us reach our funding goal.
