These are my cousins, Danielle and Daniel Calderson!
On March 7, 2024, Danielle and Daniel, married for a year, flew from San Diego, California, to Rockford, Illinois to attend a baby shower for their first baby, due in May. What should have been a celebration turned into a frightening medical emergency. The day before the shower, Daniel experienced excruciating abdominal pain and had to be rushed to the emergency room for a life saving intervention.
Daniel was hospitalized for eight days at OSF St. Anthony Medical Center. Due to his young age and excellent health, doctors were perplexed and were forced to schedule exploratory surgery to find and repair the problem. Possibilities included cancer, diverticulitis, or bowel perforation. The diagnosis was perforated intestine due to infected and ruptured diverticula.
The surgery was successful and Daniel was released from the hospital on March 16th. He and Danielle (seven months pregnant) are staying in Rockford with Danielle's mom for a few days before flying home.
Daniel and Danielle are thankful to God for all the doctors and nurses who helped to save his life. Looking ahead though, there are upcoming challenges. A second surgery will be required. It will be simpler for the doctor but much more difficult physically for Daniel due to scar tissue and recovery. It will also be financially and logistically challenging for the new family as the second surgery will occur a few short months after the baby is born. Daniel will be out of commission for a few months post surgery and will limited as to how much he can help with the new baby. Danielle is about to be on maternity leave and Daniel is dealing with job instability.
Currently the pair have been dog sitting on the side to make ends meet. This was always going to stop for a couple months while the family adjusted to a new baby but it seems the surgeries will prolong this.
Danielle and Daniel believe in the love and support of family and friends and know that they can never repay your generosity. Above any financial contributions, your prayers are what we treasure most.
God bless you! Jon Clark
