Some background about Theo for those who don’t know- Theo was born prematurely at 35 weeks and acquired a level 2/3 brain bleed from being early. He was in the NICU for 10 days, and then we went home for a week just to be admitted back into the NICU with septic shock from bacterial meningitis that went undetected at birth. This has left Theo with a TBI/ABI and global development delays. Because of the TBI and scar tissue, he has had 7 brain surgeries including shunt placements (and revisions) and a hemicrainotomy to open up scar tissue walls.

While all of this may seem discouraging, Theo continues to show progress! Part of this is due to his age and not having to “relearn” anything- he’s just learning everything for the first time, just like all other toddlers, but it takes him much longer, and more effort. Theo’s brain still has Neuroplasticity which means that early intervention, like therapies, are crucial, especially because he has missed so much time due to restrictions from surgery recovery.

DMI is a specified type of therapy that focuses on introducing new neuro-pathways to kiddos who have TBI/ABIs. It is intensive, almost like a therapy “boot camp”. Many people have seen remarkable results with DMI, so this has sparked our interest.

Since this is such a specialized type of therapy, there are very few locations in the nation that perform it. Luckily, there is a place in Fort Wayne, but it comes with a pricey cost and with no insurance accepted. As you can imagine we have a very expensive little boy, that is worth every penny, and we want to get him into this therapy for the 3 week summer session to “strike while the iron is hot”. So, as hard as it is, we are asking for a little financial help to relief some of our financial stress so we can put our entire focus on Theo’s recovery and progress.
