About us (Mr. AL| Mr. Carrillo) and this campaign:
Hello! I'm Michael Albortante (Mr. Al) the Downtown Magnets High School Robotics Coach. I've been teaching Physics at Downtown Magnets for over 5 years. More specifically, Physics of the Universe, AP Physics, and IB Physics. As of this year, I've also expanded into being the Associated Student Body Advisor (leadership), and a IB Theory of Knowledge instructor.
Even though teaching is a stressful job, I truly believe it's worth it. The students at this school are active learners and always strive to improve. They simply are some of the best nerds around. Students are often the highlight of my day. For this, and many more reasons, I feel like I owe it to them to make STEM as engaging as possible. Robotics is one of the ways I go about this.
Due to the growth of the Robotics team, Alan Carrillo (Mr. Carrillo) volunteered to undertake robotics with me as a co-coach. Mr. Carrillo and I are long-time friends, dating back to our high school time; around 11 years of friendship! Fun fact, we both now teach at the same campus where we both met and learned. Mr. Carrillo has also been teaching for over 5 years in the subject of Mathematics. Currently, he is the homeroom teacher for the Robotics team, and is pivotal for the team's survival.
The growth of robotics has caused a need for two teams, two coaches, and materials and expenses totaling $4000. As of right now, the registration and Game Set expenses have come out of my pocket. However, I cannot afford to continue to do this alone. It is for this reason that I ask my friends and the community to help support my lovely nerds in purchasing materials for this years competition. Know that these materials do translate to future competitions (except for the registration costs).
There's a detailed expense list below.
Thank you so much for taking the time to check out what this GoFundMe is about! I appreciate it even more if you donate ANY amount. My nerds will be even more grateful.

This year, we have even more underclassmen interested in robotics. Our team has expanded to 25 members. Due to our growth, we are expanding to two competing teams for this years competition.
