Dear Friends in Christ,

Thank you for visiting my page and considering a contribution toward my seminary formation. May God reward you!

In case you do not know me, my name is David McWhirter. I am 27 years old, and the second of eight children of my parents Eric and Kimberly. My father currently lives in Pennslyvania where he works hard to raise my younger siblings still living at home; my mother was called to her eternal reward in September of 2009.

I owe much to my parents for their encouragement and support in helping me follow my vocation. When I was nine or ten years old my mother asked me if I would like to be a priest when I grew up. I thought maybe I would. I knew a number of fine Dominicans who were exemplary priests, and I would have been happy to be like them. I was concerned, however, about how being a priest would work with playing major league baseball, which I really wanted to do.

Before too long my skill-deficiency in baseball put that worry to rest, but during highschool and college I became more or less distracted from thoughts of the priesthood, and the idea of it slipped to the back of my mind. I wanted to do God's will, and prayed for the grace to know and follow it, but I hoped He was calling me to marriage rather than to holy orders. Yet the idea of becoming a priest never completely left me, and eventually I realized that I would never know if I had a priestly vocation if I didn't take more concrete steps to find out. So, after graduating from Christendom College in 2012 I applied to enter seminary with the Priestly Fraternity of St. Peter. I was accepted, and am now finishing my third year here at Our Lady of Guadalupe Seminary in Denton, Nebraska.

Thanks be to God, I have had no regrets. Although the path to the priesthood is not easy, I am at peace with my decision. In various ways God seems to be indicating more and more that this is indeed what He wants of me.

A brief word on the Priestly Fraternity of St. Peter:

In Latin the Fraternitas Sacerdotalis Sancti Petri (FSSP),
the FSSP is a society of priests canonically established by Pope John Paul II in 1988. The mission of the FSSP is to sanctify both its own members, and the faithful entrusted to their care, especially by means of the ancient latin liturgy of the Catholic Church (the Traditional Latin Mass). What began as a small group of eleven priests in 1988 has grown to a robust society of 243 priests and over 150 seminarians. We serve 121 dioceses worldwide, and are growing as quickly as ever. This past March we had twelve ordained to major orders, our largest class to date. The FSSP is truly a sign of youth and vitality in the Catholic Church and in the priesthood.

The Fraternity of St. Peter is zealously commited to carrying out Christ's commission to His apostles and their successors: "Going therefore, teach ye all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost."  - Matt. 28:19  We do this particularly through the special task given us by Holy Mother Church: to bring people the Catholic Faith and the sacraments in all of their traditional splendor. For more info on the FSSP, please visit www.fssp.com .

To accomplish this mission, we spend seven years of seminary formation in preparation for going out to labor in Christ's vineyard. This time is spent in deepening prayer life and intimacy with God, and in acquiring a solid grounding in the Truth by the study of scholastic philosophy and theology, and Sacred Scripture. It is only through the great generosity of our benefactors that we are able to dedicate so much time and energy to this necessary formation.

It is to this most worthy cause of forming good Catholic priests that I humbly ask you also to consider making a contribution. Each seminarian is asked to raise a portion of the money required for his own formation. I have already received much charitable support from friends, family and fellow parishioners, but am in need of more. The goal amount of my campaign is the approximate total needed to cover my education costs through the 2016-2017 academic year.

Any funds I receive through this campaign will be used exclusively for seminary tuition and for purchasing materials required for classes.

Thank you so much for your goodness in bearing with me thus far and considering supporting my vocation. I can not tell you how grateful I am. I truly owe all of my benefactors an eternal debt of gratitude for their part in helping me to achieve such an awesome goal as the priesthood of Jesus Christ.

Whether you are able to help me financially, or simply by your prayers, please do not hesitate to email me with any prayer requests you may have, and I will be more than happy to bring them before Our Lord and His Blessed Mother. May God reward you.

Sincerely in Christ,
David McWhirter, FSSP
