Hi all, and thanks for reading/listening -
Karen (or as many of us as know her - SPAC Princess a/k/a Lady K), is in need of the DMB community's help. She's too proud to ask for it herself, and I practically had to beg her to allow me to let her start this for her, but a very kind friend and fellow WH'er did the same for me when I was in need, and I wanted to pay it back in kind.
If you have been a part of the DMB Warehouse forum over the past 20+ years, attended a concert at SPAC, or otherwise participated in the DMB community, you have almost definitely met / been strip searched by, or at least chatted with and heard some kind of funny / one of a kind story from this amazing lady.
For those of you who do not know her, Karen is one of the security guards at SPAC, in Saratoga, NY, and her post is the VIP gate, so she gets to meet lots of interesting people, including all of our favorite bands, and occasionally gets to share some stories with us.
So, on the the bad news... The purpose of the request is this: Recently, Karen went to see an eye doctor, and was told that she had to have a cyst removed, which was growing inside her left eye. Upon removal of the cyst, it was sent for a routine biopsy, but nothing more was expected.
Unfortunately, a few days later, she received a call that the growth was malignant. Now diagnosed with Lymphoma, she will be needing an infusion treatment, as well as radiation, for her left eye. Treatment on her right eye is TBD, once she meets again with the surgeon and determines if it has spread.
About 2 weeks after the initial diagnosis, Karen had a follow-up MRI performed on her left eye, and a "glitch" was noted, meaning that the cyst/growth may be reoccurring, and further surgery may be needed.
Karen does have Medicare, and private insurance, however, her out of pocket expense just for the first infusion treatment on one eye will be over $6,300. And as there will likely treatment required for the other eye, and additional treatment on both eyes, she really needs whatever help she can get, as she is on a fixed income at the moment, with SPAC shut down due to the pandemic, no shows in 2020, and 2021 a question mark at best.
If you are able to help, please do so, and please share this with anyone else who may know Karen through prior meetings or shows! I know there are a lot of us out there who are no longer on the WH, and that are not connected to me on FB, so feel free to pass this along to anyone and everyone who may be able to help, or who may want to let Karen know they are thinking of her.
Thanks for taking the time to read all this!!
