D-Man's Journey

Demetrius is a strong, resilient, extremely smart, and fun-loving young man. Demetrius, who also goes by D, has microcephaly, developmental delay, is non-verbal and is blind in both eyes. Anyone who knows D knows that he doesn't let ANY of this get in the way of being his goofy, loving self. Demetrius has inspired countless individuals throughout his life and has gained many relationships along the way. Demetrius enjoys listening to music, joking around, burping, walking or biking, spending time with his family and grandma, and watching his favorite movie "Home Alone".

Demetrius began his battle with illness at the end of December 2023 with an ambulance ride to the ER. It was discovered that Demetrius had one of the worst cases of sinusitis that the doctors had ever seen. Demetrius stayed at the hospital for a few days where he underwent intense antibiotic treatments and was sent home to recover. Demetrius returned to the ER a week later as the antibiotics at home were not enough to subside the intense infection, and Demetrius was unable to keep down solids or liquids. D was admitted due to extreme weight-loss and the continued sinus infection. Demetrius' sinus infection is under control now, but he still is not out of the water yet as he continues to lose weight and is fighting an internal battle which is presenting itself through Demetrius self-injuring.

D is currently at Regions Hospital in St. Paul where he has undergone test after test with little to no answers. Demetrius' family has been by his side throughout this time and unable to work. No parent should have to worry about their financial security, losing their home, paying bills, and putting food on the table while also being at their child's bedside in the hospital.
