Help and Support for Anne Bobrick

Donation protected

It has been an unprecedented year of challenges and heartbreak for Anne Bobrick.  In April of 2020, during the height of the pandemic, Anne sustained a terrible fall, resulting in a fracture of her right hip . During normal circumstances, medical insurance would meet the financial obligations of her treatment and rehabilitation. Unfortunately, the pandemic shutdown (and safety protocols surrounding hospital admittance and treatment) forced her and her family to pay most of these expenses out-of-pocket.

Anne had been the primary caregiver for her husband, Art. Her incapacitation, however, left her unable to work or care for her husband. Their son, Jeffrey, stepped in as primary caregiver to both. As Anne was healing the unspeakable occurred.  Art passed away in November 2020 leaving Anne with piles of medical bills and declining health.

Then, on April 18th, 2021, disaster struck once more. Anne fell and fractured her left hip, putting all of her progress back to square one.  Anne is recovering after her second surgery, and with the right treatments, medications and care she will heal in time. But the costs are astronomical.  The brunt of the expenses have been borne by her son Jeffrey, but the extra bills--especially with this new injury--are building up. She is currently in a sub-acute rehabilitation center that is covered by  Medicare, but full coverage will run out soon. Once she is released to her home, she will need round-the-clock care by a home health aid to make sure she is safe, can recover properly and not fall again.

Anne needs your help to pay for the health aid and necessary medical bills that will cost $60,000.

"All donations/gifts given through this GoFundMe page are directed to a special bank account Jeffrey Paul (Anne’s Son) has set up for her.  Jeffrey Paul will manage funds to help with expenses and needs Anne has while she is in the hospital/Rehab, and he will transfer all remaining funds to her once she is in a condition to receive them."

Q: Why $60k? How do you know this is enough for Anne’s needs?

A: Based on the cost of care and medical bills, this is the necessary amount.

Q: Where do the funds contributed for Anne Bobrick’s care go?

A. Contributed funds are placed directly into a bank account designated for her living expenses (24 hour care, medical, daily supplies).

Q: Is it possible that she will no longer need 24 hour care?

A: Yes, this is the goal that we are all working towards. Jeffrey, Anne, her doctors and medical professionals are doing all they can to support Anne’s continued recovery and success - we do know that she will need at least $60,000 worth of care.

Q: How has the family been meeting these financial obligations?

A: The costs have depleted Anne’s life savings. Current expenses are partially covered by insurance and are supplemented out of pocket by her son, Jeffrey.

Q: How did the pandemic affect Anne’s treatment?

A: Due to the pandemic, and the risks of contracting COVID-19 at such a sub-acute rehab facility, she was advised in April 2020 (after her first of two hip fractures) to return home after her hospital stay. As a result, the majority of her rehab has to be paid for out of pocket (not of the standard consistent with that of a Medicare-funded facility).

Q: What about Medicare, Medicaid, long-term care?

A: Medicare has limits on what it funds. Home care is not funded. Physical therapy or rehabilitation are only partially funded. Medicaid funds 8 hours per day of care maximum. Additionally, long-term care policies do not fully cover the costs of 24 hour care and medical expenses.

Q: Who is Anne Bobrick?

A: Anne is a mother, a wife, and a person who loves to give to others. As a psychiatric social worker for over 50 years, she has devoted her life to helping people. She and her family appreciate your love, support and help.
