Wayne's Blood Bank
Donation protected
Wayne . . . Waynie . . . Husband . . . Father . . . Grandpa . . . Friend . . . Uncle Big Guy . . . All around BEST guy! Wayne would give you the shirt off his back and often gives far more than he ever receives. A man of few words but many actions, he is the one we always count on. He is our rock. Now, we need to be his rock.
In November 2015, Wayne went into the hospital with a hernia. The doctors told him a routine outpatient surgery would easily repair it. Unfortunately, when they did the blood work prior to surgery, they discovered something was horribly wrong. Wayne's platelet count and white blood cell count were dangerously low. After weeks of testing and bone marrow biopsies, the doctors delivered the horrible news. Wayne was told he has Myelodysplastic Syndrome or MDS! Often called the precursor to Acute Myeloid Leukemia, this syndrome does not have a cure.
Throughout December, Wayne spent most of his time in the hospital receiving blood/platelet transfusions and undergoing chemotherapy. As it turns out, he has a very aggressive, high-risk form of MDS. To top it off, while in the hospital, he developed a Pseudomonas blood infection. They are now trying to stabilize that with a full course of antibiotics. Wayne is in the fight of his life.
Throughout the next few months, Wayne will continue to undergo numerous blood and platelet transfusions to prolong his life. On average, he is currently receiving 2 - 4 pints of blood and/or platelets every week. That's upwards of 16 pints per month. At an average cost of $1,200 per pint, the medical bills quickly add up. This is where we come in!
Today, we are opening "Wayne's Blood Bank" in hopes of raising at least $10,000 to help offset the cost of Wayne's new blood. Wayne has given so much to so many people throughout his lifetime. It is now our turn to give back! Please consider donating any amount possible. Nothing is too small! Every penny will be put towards the cost of Wayne's blood and the fight to keep an amazing man alive. In the event there is money left over, all money will be donated to BloodSource of Sacramento (a not-for-profit blood center that provides blood and services throughout Northern and Central California - www.bloodsource.org).
We also encourage everyone who can to consider donating a pint of blood to their local blood bank. Although we cannot donate blood to Wayne specifically (due to safety regulations, cross-matching, etc.), we can help numerous other patients like Wayne who require new blood to survive.
We thank you in advance for your time and generosity!
