Kira's Health Fund

Hi there, my name is Donna Pearson and I'm the proud mommy to a beautiful rainbow baby named Kira Danielle. My husband Kyle and I welcomed Kira to the world just over 3 years ago. When she was 3 months old we learned that she was born with a heart defect, an atrial septal defect. Simply put, she has a hole in her heart, and it's putting undue pressure and strain on the right side of her heart causing it to become enlarged and work harder than it should. At the moment, she has no symptoms and is a busy, active 3 year old BUT if we take no action the risks are high that in her 20s or 30s her heart will fail with little to no notice. Obviously, we want her to live as long as possible! We are in the final process of getting her booked in for surgery, which should happen sometime in the next fews months.
One of the biggest things that needs to be done is to ensure any outstanding dental work is taken care of; no heart surgery can be booked if there is any dental work necessary. She had her first dental check-up on November 19th and we found out that she has a condition called Enamel Hypoplasia, which means she doesn't produce enough enamel to properly protect her teeth. She needs some pretty extensive work done to repair and protect her teeth.
Kira has had a lot of exposure to doctors in her young life and she is, not unexpectedly, pretty nervous around medical personnel. The dentist is recommending that she be sedated to complete the work, and at the same time they'll take xrays, complete a cleaning and take care of any cavities that might show on the xrays. Fortunately, I do have health insurance but my insurance covers less than half the cost. Her dental work is booked for December 15th; thankfully she should be feeling like herself again for Christmas!
When the dental work is complete and we get a surgical date for the open heart surgery we will likely also have transportation and accomodation costs, as the surgery will take place in Edmonton, about 4 hours north of us. We are hoping costs will be low but it will depend on vacancy rates at Ronald McDonald house and many other unknown variables. We do know there will be costs for travel, gas, food, hospital parking, accomodations, etc.
Having some assistance with these costs and knowing that Kyle and I can put our full attention on being there for Kira would mean the world to us.
Thank you from the bottom of our hearts.
