On Saturday, March 12th, 2022, friends and local downtown businesses of Davis will be honoring the life of David (DK) Kim by hosting a celebration of life and fundraiser to create a sports broadcasting scholarship in his honor. From 2pm – 6p.m. there will be free live music at 3rd and G Street by Damaged Things, Infinite Vastness, Graybar Hotel, Trash Struggle, and Evan Daly Blues Band. Also, local businesses will be participating in the fundraiser with food and drink specials and portions of their sales going towards the scholarship during that time period. These businesses include G Street Wunderbar, Woodstock’s Pizza, Tommy J’s, Tres Hermanas, Beer Shoppe, Open Rice Kitchen, 3 Mile Brewing, The Vault, Red 88, Hot Dogger, and Sophia’s Thai Kitchen.
On November 1st, 2021, the Davis community suddenly lost a dear friend, David (DK) Kim, due to complications from a heart condition. DK was a staple to the Davis community; he was a member of the Woodstock’s Pizza Davis family for nearly 20 years, and he was a UC Davis graduate with a degree in English, and a proud Sammie (Sigma Alpha Mu). DK poured his soul into UC Davis athletics, broadcasting and supporting many different sporting events such as football, basketball, softball, women’s lacrosse and more. In addition, he worked on a sports radio show at KDVS and co-hosted on KDRT.
DK was one of a kind! He had such a passion for life and sports. Anyone who met DK can tell you how he just lit up any room he was in. He made everyone feel like they were family; even if it was your first time meeting him, you could feel the warmth he radiated. He affected so many people in such a positive way, and there are no words I can say that can convey how truly amazing he was.
Please join a community that loved DK so dearly by helping start a sports broadcasting scholarship in his name to help future sports enthusiasts fulfill their dreams and keep his name alive.
