Please help my little kitties

Donation protected

Hi everyone,

I am writing to ask you for help for my two little kitties who have recently fallen terribly ill back to back.

I adopted both of my girls in Antigua while I was in medical school there, and since then, they have never left my side no matter where I had to move during medical school. My girls are my whole world and I love them unconditionally and have given them the best care I could, so you can imagine how devastated I was/am when first Figgy fell ill and now Pearl.

A month ago, Figgy (my younger one/the Calico), had what was first called a urinary tract infection (which is extremely rare for female cats) that then progressed into full blown sepsis in a matter of 48 hours. After coming home and finding her vomiting, limp and barely breathing, I ended up rushing her to two different vets and ultimately to the emergency animal hospital after my family vet told me her prognosis was poor and she would most likely not make it through the night unless she got admitted to the intensive care unit. When I took her to the hospital, I was informed that she was in complete kidney failure and that they did not know if she would turn around and to prepare myself for the worse. In complete shock and beyond heartbroken that my healthy little girl could fall so ill so quickly, I made the only choice I could and admitted her immediately. At this point I could do nothing but wait and pray.

Figgy ended up being admitted for a total of four days in the ICU where she was under 24 hour surveillance receiving antibiotics, an overload of fluids, pain medications, constant bloodwork, etc.  Miraculously, after about one day of treatment she began to show signs of improvement, although she still hadn't eaten in about five days. After several more days of fluids and constant re-checking of her bloodwork, she showed drastic changes and was improving tremendously. Finally, by the time they told me I could bring her home, she was much more energetic and was accepting some food. Even after I was able to bring her home, I had to continue to monitor her and give her fluids and was instructed to return for more bloodwork and antibiotics in several days to make sure her kidneys weren't damaged permanently. Thankfully since then she has made a full recovery and is expected to do well with constant monitoring of her water and food intake.

Figgy's treatment cost over $4,000 and had to be paid upfront before she was admitted to the hospital. Having no financial means to pay that amount at the moment, I had no choice but to borrow the money. Now a month later, not even having recovered from the first unfortunate event, my older kitty Pearl (the white one) has also fallen very ill. Upon taking her to the vet, we discovered that she currently has pyometra (a life-threatening infection of the uterus) and needs emergency surgery and hospitalization immediately before the infection spreads further. The estimated cost for this operation is $1,000+.

I am a recent medical school graduate and given all my loans/debt, I am trying very hard to keep up with my bills at the moment. There is nothing I wouldn't do for my babies but even though I am doing everything in my power, I am falling short. For those of you who know me personally, you probably know that I am not the type of person that usually asks for help like this unless I have no choice left. However, at this moment, I truly need the help for my kitties.

As a pet mother/father, this is the worse news a person can receive. Every dollar given and every share helps more than you can imagine right now. Thank you so much for taking the time to read this lengthy post. It truly means the world to me.

All the best,

~Selin
