Help DJ recover from school bus accident.

My name is DJ. I am a very special 11-year-old boy. I love my family & my friends, and I have been told that I give the best hugs on the planet. More than anything, I want to be able to ride my bike & play soccer again!

On Friday, November 4th DJ was critically injured when his special needs school bus was horrifically T-Boned by a semi-truck on the way to school. The police say DJ took the worst of the impact from the collision and that he was ejected over 30’ from the bus across the road and into a ditch.

DJ was rushed to the Children’s Stollery Hospital, where he was taken into back-to-back surgeries. DJ suffered multiple injuries including dozens of fractured and broken bones throughout his entire body. DJ’s shattered hip & pelvis required surgery and will require further surgeries in the future as his body grows.

After 18 days in care, DJ has finally been able to return home with his family to continue his long road to recovery.

DJ’s physical, mental & emotional recovery & therapy needs are all expected to be quite extensive & expensive due to the immense traumatic nature of his accident.

Because of his multiple broken & fractured bones, he requires a custom, special ordered wheelchair - as well as several other mobility aids including a 37’ ramp to be able to enter his home. DJ’s physical recovery period is expected to take years, with hopes that he will be able to make a full physical recovery & return to his full mobility one day, but at this point, nobody knows the exact outcome of this journey.

DJ’s family is one of the most caring and loving families you’ll ever meet. Their lives revolve around helping others in need every way they can. They are first to offer help and the last to ever ask for it, but right now, DJ’s family is struggling to keep up with all the overwhelming expenses directly related to DJ’s immediate needs and could use whatever support you are willing to offer.

DJ’s family knows that at some point down this road, injury and insurance claims will help to recover some of the financial burden this horrific accident has caused, but that will likely be several years from now.
