I was DJing at a party just trying to provide for me and my daughters when gunshots suddenly broke out. In a split second, everything changed. As I tried to duck and get to safety, I was shot in the back. Doctors are still trying to determine the full extent of the damage, and I have multiple upcoming appointments. Right now, I cannot lift my right arm my dominant arm which makes it impossible for me to DJ or work.

As a single mother of two, this has been devastating. DJing is my only source of income, and because I’m self-employed, I don’t have paid time off or sick leave to fall back on. Right now, I have no income coming in while medical bills and everyday expenses continue to pile up. I’ve always worked hard to provide for my kids, but this situation has left me overwhelmed and uncertain about how I will get through this.
