Divine Destiny International Children's Ministry
Donation protected

In 2017, I had an opportunity to join an International Volunteer trip to Uganda, where I met Betty Jessica Obbo - the founder of Divine Destiny Children's Home in Tororo District Uganda. Divine Destiny Children's Home is a non- governmental organization that looks after children who were abandoned and left on streets. Currently, Betty shelters and serves about 30 children in her organization. There, the children are cared for and given the opportunity for an education. More importantly, Divine Destiny Children's Home offers these children a place where they can call home. As a non-governmental organization, currently Divine Destiny Children's Home receives no funding from the government as well as any additional organizational support.

"It takes a village to raise a child."
Children are our next generation and the hope of a brighter tomorrow begins through them. The inspiring effort Betty has shown and devoted towards helping the children has forever changed the lives of many. However, much more can be done with your help! On behalf of Betty and myself, I sincerely invite you to help and become part of our village dedicated to raising the children of Uganda.

There are many ways to extend your helping hands.

BACKGROUND
I developed the passion and idea to help the less privileged in society following a scene of a little a boy I saw knocked down by a speeding motorbike trying to cross the road to pick something to eat in a nearby rubbish pit behind a small restaurant which was managed by my late grandfather, way back in February 2015, I felt so touched in my heart as I picked him up to take him the nearest medical centre for attention.
My thinking about other people in society drastically changed since then and I felt there was a certain group of people who needed help from others and the only way such could be attained was through starting a movement that would give them chance to be visible to those who can give them hope and help and hence, with help of my family members I started “DEVINE DESTINY CHILDRENS HOME”
I started with four boys, Opio Paul, Emuye Joash, Oketch Peter and kauka James and since then the number has kept on growing, today we are more than 50 children in the home. we are believing God to change the lives of all the vulnerable children of Tororo district by upholding and campaigning for their rights, where of improving their well being, and also to have communities where the livelihood of children especially, the vulnerable street children, disadvantaged, orphans, those affected and infected by H.I.VAIDS, domestic violence, those living in extreme poverty is positively transformed.

MISSION: Protecting and empowering vulnerable children of Tororo District by upholding and campaigning for their rights, whereof improving their well being.

PROJECT UPDATES/PROGRESS
Over the time the project has managed to make key achievements though micro in nature:-
a. From four children in February 2015, today we are a family of 50 children, benefitting directly under this home with the basics we can afford to offer for now.
b. In 2015 we started from my parent’s residence, today we are renting our own home with better space and freedom for the children.
c. Further still in 2015, primarily, the project was running on meager resources from my personal earnings, today we have gone into small vegetable farming utilizing the little land around our hired home and this acts as a secondary source of funding for the project.
d. Similarly, today we are able to have some support staff helping us in the home (say, one Ms. Nyachwo Esther 32 years of age and one Mr. Okoth Bernard 29 years of age), we equally have two volunteers in the team, (one Ms. Adikini Scovia and Ms. Tahiya Ali Miriam).
The two volunteers have the will and ability to look after the children in event that iam not available for any un avoidable circumstances.
These may not sound any achievement in the eyes of other people, to me and the children is a great achievement given where we started, now we have hope that we can make it.
SHORT COMINGS
• Because of our low/limited resource base, Rent fees for our home remains one if not the major challenge we face today.
• Feeding equally remains a challenge to an extent.
• Electricity
• Fencing of the home/premises for security both our lives and the food in the backyard.
FUTURE PLANS:
• Education of the children
• Land for expansion of farming, poultry and Housing since more children are coming aboard day in day out.
• Have our own day care center.
• Plan to have commercial projects for the grown up children (Vehicle washing bays).
