Hello, I'm Nathaniel Pyfrom, and I invite you to help bring God’s Word to life—visually, powerfully, and word-for-word. Through dynamic manga rooted in Scripture, starting with The Life of King David, we’re launching a global evangelistic tool. This is more than art—it’s a movement. Join us in spreading the Gospel.
Title: Divine Conquest: The Bible in Battle & Glory
Subtitle: Experience the Unfolding War Between Darkness and Light—Verbatim from the Word of God
The Vision: Bringing the Bible to Life in Manga Format—Word for Word
Imagine the Bible brought to life through the vibrant, dynamic art form of manga—a medium that resonates with people across the globe. My project, “The Pilot: The Life of King David,” is the first step toward translating the entire Bible into manga form, starting with the life of David, a man after God’s heart. This journey, filled with epic battles, deep faith, and divine encounters, is perfect for manga’s storytelling style.
But what makes this project truly unique is that nothing will be summarized or paraphrased. The entire series will use the Bible verbatim in the Christian Standard Bible (CSB) translation. This means that readers—especially those who may have never read the Bible in its entirety—will experience exactly what the Bible says from Genesis to Revelation, on a fifth-grade reading level. This ensures an accurate and accessible understanding of the Word of God while immersing them in the epic, historical, and spiritual narrative of the Bible.
What is Manga and Anime? A Layperson’s Guide
For those unfamiliar with the terms, manga refers to Japanese-style graphic novels or comic books, often in black and white, that use detailed artwork and deep storytelling to engage readers. Manga is popular not only in Japan but also across the world. It covers various genres, from action and adventure to drama, romance, and even spiritual themes.
Anime, on the other hand, refers to animated shows or films that originate from Japan, typically based on manga. While manga tells the story through still illustrations and text, anime brings those same stories to life through movement, voice acting, and music. Many of the world’s most beloved anime started as manga, including global hits like Naruto, Dragon Ball Z, and One Piece.
Why Manga? A Global Phenomenon with Natural Expansion into Animation
Manga is not only one of the most popular media formats globally, but it also often serves as the first step in creating a full-fledged animated series. This natural cultural progression can lead to an even broader impact, as readers first engage with the visual story in the form of manga, which often builds anticipation and excitement for future animated adaptations.
- One Piece: What began as a manga has evolved into one of the most successful anime franchises, with millions of fans eagerly following both formats. Its manga sold over 500 million copies, and its anime has run for decades.
- Dragon Ball Z: The manga was the original source material, but it was the eventual animation that propelled it into global fame, inspiring generations with its high-energy battles and moral lessons.
- Attack on Titan and Naruto: These popular series started as manga and quickly became internationally recognized anime, further increasing the audience reach.
The same natural progression can happen with the Bible manga series. Once readers are captivated by the vibrant illustrations and engaging narrative in manga form, the demand for an animated adaptation will follow. This provides visual anchors that strengthen the message of the Bible and create opportunities for broader engagement—especially for younger generations and visual learners.
By supporting this project, you are not only helping to create a readable, visually compelling Bible; you are laying the foundation for future animated adaptations that will bring Scripture to life for audiences worldwide. Imagine children and adults watching the life of King David, the story of the Exodus, and the teachings of Jesus in high-quality animation—rooted in the Word of Yahweh.
The Opportunity: A New Tool for Global Mission Work
Manga has proven to be a universal language, capable of engaging people across cultures and age groups. It offers a unique opportunity to present the Bible’s message in a format that resonates with today’s global audience, particularly in regions where traditional evangelism may not have the same reach or effectiveness.
Global Appeal: The international popularity of manga and anime provides an excellent gateway to share the Gospel. Manga's visual storytelling is particularly appealing in countries like Japan, South Korea, and many parts of Europe, Africa, and Latin America.
Engaging the Youth: Young people today are more inclined to engage with visual and interactive content. By presenting the Bible in manga format, we can capture their attention and present the truth of Scripture in a way that feels fresh and exciting.
No Summaries, Just Scripture: Unlike other attempts to adapt biblical stories, this project will use the verbatim text from the Bible, specifically the CSB translation. This gives people the chance to read the Word of God exactly as it is written but with the added benefit of powerful visuals.
This project begins with The Life of King David, a story rich with themes of faith, leadership, struggle, and redemption. This is just the first step, with the long-term vision to create a complete series covering all 66 books of the Bible. And with the natural progression of manga into animation, this project could become a full-fledged multimedia experience, introducing the Bible to millions around the world in ways that are both faithful and innovative.
The Ask: Your Support to Launch the Pilot
To bring this vision to life, I need your support to raise $3500 to produce “The Pilot: The Life of King David.” This first installment will pave the way for future Bible manga adaptations and potentially an animated series.
The Goal: $3500 to fund the production of the manga pilot based on the life of King David, using the CSB translation word for word.
The Ask: I’m seeking 35 individuals to donate $100 each to help me reach this milestone.
The Impact: By supporting this project, you will help create a tool that brings God’s Word to life for readers and viewers worldwide. Your contribution will help fund a project that can be used in evangelism, discipleship, and education across the globe.
By donating to this project, you are not only contributing to the creation of a manga series that presents Scripture faithfully, but you’re also laying the groundwork for future animated adaptations that can bring these powerful stories to life on screen. With your help, we can create something that will inspire, educate, and transform lives around the world.
