Diver Dave Thurley Assistance Fund

Our buddy and fellow USN Diver, Dave Thurley, has been struggling with diabetes and kidney disease for some time now, and things recently took a turn for the worse.  Dave has now been diagnosed with end stage renal (kidney) failure and has to go on dialysis.  Additionally, he was recently released from his employer without any health benefits.  With Dave being out of work and in and out of the hospital, things have become very tough for the Thurley family.  They are working with social services to get assistance, but it is a slow process.  This fund is to provide some measure of help during this very difficult time for Dave, Virginia and their two teenage daughters, Tayler and Haley.  The immediate goal is to raise funds in time to get them to the family in time for the holidays.

11-14-18 Update:  For those that would like to know, my name is Chuck Wirtz from Cleveland, Ohio.  I am a good friend of Dave and his family, fellow Navy Diver, and fellow member of the Denizens of the Deep (DOD) Deep See riders (a motorcycle club made up of current and former Navy Divers).  The campaign is doing great.  As originally stated, the immediate goal was raise funds in time to get them to the Thurley family before Christmas.  There is a core group of DOD members that are overseeing this campaign and other fundraising activities for Dave and his family.  As the sponsor/organizer for this campaign, we will be making a withdrawal of the funds raised to date and presenting them to Dave and Virginia before the end of November.  The funds will be used to help with medical bills and other family expenses (e.g., mortgage payments) that are suffering due to Dave being let go by his employer and all the medical expenses.   The needs are great so we hope to keep the campaign going through the early part of next year.  All funds raised will be provided directly to the Thurley family.
