Hi, I'm Suzanne. I've been taking voice lessons from Deb since the pandemic. She and I have talked, laughed and sang our way through the last 3 years. Along the way we've become good friends. Anyone who knows Deb knows how easy it is to be around her and inspired by her. She's a force of nature and an incredibly open and loving person. In October she shared her diagnosis with me and I was crushed. But also hopeful. Many women who are diagnosed with breast cancer go on to live wonderful lives and if any one can do that, it is Deb. But sadly with cancer, the treatment is painful, emotional and life-altering. Deb and Paul are doing their best to carry on with life, perform when they can and get through each day. I know her army of friends, supporters, family members and fans are lined up waiting to help them. After several talks with them, it has been difficult to identify clear needs. A Meal Train won't work because Deb's appetite and tastes change often. What they truly need right now is money to help them as they navigate this journey. Trips to the grocery store are expensive, the medical bills are piling up, they need to hire a housecleaner and they aren't performing as much due to this cancer so their income is down.
Other ways to help are detailed on their CaringBridge site. Deb definitely needs help with wigs - selecting new ones, wearing and styling the ones she has. The changes in her appearance over the last three months have affected her greatly so anything to help her feel like her pre-cancer self would be a huge win.
Throughout these past few months I've learned that Deb and Paul have an incredibly difficult time asking for and accepting help. Don't we all? The love, prayers and outpouring of support have been amazing. Keep those coming. And if you can spare a financial gift, they would be immensely grateful. Any funds collected will go towards helping them get through this new life with cancer.
