Dissonance - A Film by Edward Zorab

Hello. My name is Edward Zorab, and I'm a Writer and Director, raising money to make my latest film - "Dissonance" - my longest labour of love to date. The funds will be used to create a 20 minute ‘proof of concept’ short film for a feature length 90 minute version of the same premise.
Dissonance follows Salomé, the orphan of a music icon, as she records at 'The Manor', an infamous countryside studio responsible for producing some of Britain’s most iconic albums through the 50’s/60’s/ 70’s.
Tensions with the studio executive, Byron, embroil Salomé in a horrifying conspiracy as her path interweaves with her mother’s fatal stint in the same studio, in the late 1970s.
This is a film cloaked in secrets; the real cost of a legacy, of inherited trauma, and of chilling family history. Salomé's dark journey of self-discovery takes place through the lens of creating an EP - each new chord bringing her closer to her mother, connecting through songs, but also to terrifying truths concealed in The Manor.
I wrote the first draft of Dissonance almost one and a half years ago, although the premise has haunted me for much longer. I have always been fascinated by pop culture creation myths and had suspicions that a certain few might fit together to form a fearsome parable of how far some will go to attain fame, and how far some will go to escape it.
We're now just before the tip of the mountain, before Dissonance can be realised and its melodies and narrative twists and turns released into wildly into the world.
Attached to Dissonance so far;
- Gabrielle de Cevins of The Bureau Film Company producing from UK (45 Years, Supernova, Little Joe)
- Noe TJ Phillipson of Digital Orchard producing from UK.
- Leo Wyndham of indie rock group ‘Palace’ attached as Composer, bespoke songs written and recorded ahead of production.
- Wouter Verheul attached as Director of Photography. Oscars, BFI and ASFF recognised and award winning cinematographer.
- Cameron JL West attached to design music paraphernalia within the film. Previous work for The Clash, The Arctic Monkeys and The Vaccines produced en masse.
- Kai Marks attached as Executive Producer. Independent Manager and Touring Photographer with The Rolling Stones, Radiohead, Arctic Monkeys, Foo Fighters and The Libertines.
I hope Dissonance arouses your curiosity and you see in this project a unique concept, combining the rich and gothic musical history of Britain with a dark, Faustian parable of paganism and fame.
