Dissident Rhythms: A Queer Percussive Dance Gathering needs your help with unanticipated expenses for our event, January 4-8, 2024!
Co-founded in 2022 by Mo Brachfeld and Nic Gareiss, Dissident Rhythms is a gathering for 2SLGBTQIA+ percussive dancers. After the incredible response following our first event in January 2023, we decided to hold the event again in 2024 at the John C. Campbell Folk School in Brasstown, North Carolina. John C. Campbell also generously offered seven fully-funded scholarships for Black, Indigenous, dancers of color, trans, and non-binary dancers. But we've come up against some unexpected expenses: insurance, food, and travel costs, and we're asking for your help to make our event happen.
Any support you can provide would be much appreciated as we create a space for 2SLGBTQIA+ clog, tap, step, sean nós, flatfoot, flamenco, folklórico, and Bharatanatyam dancers to gather, offer class to one another, share works-in-progress, improvise together, and nourish one another's creative lives in coalition as fellow queer people. All contributions will go towards the costs of producing Dissident Rhythms and making it as accessible as possible for dancers to attend.
THANK YOU for your support of Dissident Rhythms and helping us create an inclusive and queer-affirming gathering for percussive dancers of many backgrounds!
