OVERVIEW

"Disconnected" is a short psychological drama about a strained relationship between a young woman, Amelia, and her boyfriend, Will. After another disastrous argument that ends with Will leaving, Amelia wakes up the next morning to discover that her boyfriend has yet to return home. After many unanswered calls, Amelia spirals as she grapples with her own insecurities and fears, losing her sense of reality in the face of haunting hallucinations.

DIRECTOR'S STATEMENT

"Disconnected" is a film that holds a special place in my heart, as it delves into themes that resonate deeply with my own experiences and struggles. It's a story that explores the fragility of relationships and the intricate workings of one's emotional state. Amelia's journey mirrors my own battles with obsessive anxiety and insecurity. Like her, I've found myself caught in a spiral of negative thoughts and fears, struggling to break free from their grip.

By externalizing these struggles through the characters of Amelia and Will, I hope to shed light on the complexities of the human psyche and inspire empathy and understanding in my audience for those who face similar struggles every day.

CHARACTERS

Amelia

A mix of vulnerability and strength. Amelia loves deeply and wholeheartedly, committing everything she has to a relationship and expecting the same commitment in return. She acts as if she’s not afraid to assert herself, but there is an underlying sense of fragility as she fights to maintain her composure in stressful situations. She feels emotions very intensely, constantly feeling overwhelmed by the pessimistic and anxious voices in her head.

Will

Strong-willed and confident. Will enjoys the attention of being wanted. He likes the emotional intensity of his relationship with Amelia and the passion behind the arguments they get into often. He cares for and loves Amelia, but has started to lack respect for their relationship since realizing how much he could get away with and still be welcomed home by Amelia.
