This is Leia. She was surrendered to our home based grooming salon You Gud Dog, just days ago — and what we saw will stay with us forever… ❤️ She was abandoned to our grooming salon in 45°C heat, covered in her own faeces, showing signs of heat stroke and extreme neglect.
She had been left tied to a bench outside, in the blazing sun, barely responsive, while her family stood nearby — not worried about her health, but about cleaning out their car of faeces.
No one asked how she was doing. No one showed concern for the fact that she could barely stand. No one cared, BUT for us.
We rushed her inside, desperately attempting to cool her down, and tried to make her comfortable as we thought that might have been it for her.
We were fast to realize her issues went far beyond what we could see. After spending over two hours trying to get in contact with the original owner and hearing nothing we did what we felt necessary for Leia, by rushing her to the vet. The diagnosis from the vet was absolutely crushing.
Leia is currently suffering from:
• Severe pneumonia in both lungs
• Collapsed trachea
• Enlarged heart
• Enlarged liver
• Kidney dysfunction
• Severely distended abdomen full of gas which can lead to a bloat (which is incredibly dangerous and high risk of death) and suspected internal bleeding
The vet believes she has been suffering like this for months — possibly over a year. This is long-term neglect, and it’s heartbreaking that no one stepped in sooner.
The worst part is, Leia is ONLY 3 years old. She’s never known peace, and now her life is hanging by a thread. After many back and forth calls between 311, Toronto Animal Services, and Toronto Animal Welfare We legally took Leia in and as she is now our responsibility, we have already spent over $1,500 trying to help her — every bit of what we had and did not hesitate. But now she needs emergency surgery and hospitalization to survive, and we just can’t afford the next step alone.
We were informed by Toronto Animal Welfare, that If we surrender her to the city, in hopes she can get the treatment she needs BUT due to budgeting constraints, she will most likely be EUTHANIZED.
That is not the ending she deserves. She deserves a second chance. She deserves a fair chance to feel safe, to be loved, and to finally know what it means to be part of a family that won’t give up on her. She is the most loveable dog you’ll meet, despite everything she is going through and how much pain and exhaustion she is experiencing, she still goes out of her way to show her gratefulness and love to us as best as she can.
EVERY SECOND COUNTS AND TIME IS NOT ON OUR SIDE! We are asking — from the bottom of our hearts — please help us save her.
Even $5, $10 makes a difference. And if you can’t donate, please SHARE HER STORY.
She didn’t choose this life, but together, we can help change how it ends.
With all our love,
Kaylee, Daniela & the You Gud Dog Team
