Disastrous Home Flood Remediation

Hi, I’m Stephanie Woody, my husband is Joey Vernon, our daughter is Veda and we live in Charlotte, NC. I set up this campaign because my family and I need help. Where do I start......the last couple of years have been difficult financially and we have been working hard to overcome and get back to a stable place. 2020 was going to be our year!
And then........Covid-19 pulled the emergency brake on our life and finances, as it did for so many people everywhere. I had to close a business I had just opened a mere 6 months ago and Joey was forced to stop working on March 25th as all non essential businesses closed. We seemed to fall through the cracks of every single government program put into place to help up save our household and businesses, and devised a plan to help us get over this next hump until we could start earning a normal income again.
Years ago Joey was gifted a small (adorable) trailer at the beach when his grandfather passed away. It has been a place where our family has created many summertime memories over the years and also a place that holds the best pieces of his grandad's spirit. To relieve ourselves of the overwhelming financial burden of this pandemic, we were planning on calling it home for the foreseeable future. Over the last month we poured what little bit of cash we had left into doing some minor, yet necessary repairs and had begun moving out of the home we rent in Charlotte, and into the trailer.
This morning, I left early to run a load of our things down and to do some more cleaning to prepare for our move and what I walked into was nothing short of disastrous. Sometime during the week since we were there last, a pipe had burst under the kitchen sink flooding the entire house. Standing water everywhere. Floors beginning to sink in. Ruined boxes of our belongings that had already been moved down.
During a time when we were particularly tight on money, we had to let the insurance on the trailer lapse, and because of that lapse we hadn't yet been able to find another insurance company willing to insure it, so the cost of the repairs is entirely on us, and we just don't have it. I can't even begin to wrap my head around the actual numbers, so the proposed need is just a guess, but the entire place needs to be gutted. Drywall, cabinets, floors, appliances, potential mold remediation, and I'm sure a slew of unexpected casualties.......it is a truly devastating blow.
And because when it rains it pours, as Joey was trying to get down to the beach to assess the damage himself, his truck decided to break leaving us with only one car and now another very costly repair.
We are grasping for sanity and stability and are not sure where to turn, so here we are. We need help. And if it's not the financial kind you can give, we'll take the hands on kind too. If you can fix a house or a car, that's the kind of help we need.
I never thought that I would be writing one of these for myself and it is truly the most humbling thing I have ever had to do. Thank you for taking the time to read my ramblings and for any help, kind words, happy thoughts, and warm hugs you might be able to provide.

Love to you all,

Stephanie, Joey, and Veda **All donations will go towards supplies needed to fix the home and any labor should we run into something we cannot fix ourselves, vehicle repairs, travel expenses with all the back and forth, and the cost of living (food, shelter, etc) while work is drastically reduced/non existent due do this mess.
