Help a Filipino Family Rebuild After Earthquake Flooding
Their Home Was Destroyed - They've Lost Everything
I'm reaching out on behalf of dear friends and former colleagues who have been devastated by the recent 4.9 magnitude aftershock earthquake off Cebu on November 15th. This tremor, following the catastrophic 6.9 magnitude earthquake that struck on September 30th, caused severe flooding that has completely destroyed their home and livelihood.
About This Family
For the past 10 years, I've had the privilege of knowing and working alongside this incredible family. They are honest, hardworking parents who have always provided for their two young children - a 9-year-old and a 5-year-old.
They didn't ask me to create this fundraiser. They're too proud to ask for help. But I can't stand by and watch them struggle alone.
They work remotely for Australian companies from their home in Cebu, supporting their family through dedication and hard work. Now, through no fault of their own, they've lost everything they've built.
The Devastation
The earthquake-triggered flooding swept through their home, leaving behind complete destruction:
- All furniture - beds, tables, chairs - destroyed by floodwater
- All kitchen appliances and utensils - stove, refrigerator, cookware - ruined
- Two work laptops - their lifeline to employment - waterlogged and beyond repair
- Children's belongings - toys, clothes, school supplies - gone
- No electricity - wiring, outlets, and connection to mainline all damaged
The flooding didn't just take their possessions - it took their ability to earn a living. Without laptops, they cannot work. Without work, they cannot feed their children or begin to rebuild.
What They Need:
Immediate Priority - Restore Power & Income ($3,500 AUD)
- Electrical wiring repairs and new outlets and Connection to mainline power ($1k AUD)
- Two replacement laptops for work (they cannot earn income without these)
Essential Living Needs (Additional funds):
- Basic furniture (beds for the family, table, chairs, lounge etc)
- Kitchen appliances (stove, basic cookware etc)
- Whitegoods (fridge, freezer etc)
- Children's clothing, toys and school supplies
Our initial goal: $3,500 AUD to restore electricity and replace work laptops so they can earn income again.
Any additional funds will go directly toward replacing furniture, appliances, and essential items for their children.
Why This Matters
This family represents everything good about hardworking parents trying to provide for their kids. They've never asked for charity. They've always found a way. But this disaster is beyond what anyone could prepare for.
Their children deserve to sleep in beds again. They deserve to eat hot meals. Their parents deserve the chance to work and rebuild with dignity.
The 4.9 magnitude aftershock on November 15th was part of a devastating series of earthquakes that have affected hundreds of thousands of people across Cebu. While international aid organizations are working on large-scale relief, individual families like this one are falling through the cracks.
