Hi, my name is Alessia Simmen and I am fundraising to help with flood relief here in Mexico. I have been living here for a few months now and within the last week more than 10 towns within the eastern region of Mexico in San Luis Potosi, Veracruz, Tamaulipas, Hidalgo, and Puebla have flooded due to excessive heavy rains from tropical storms causing rivers to overflow. I have first hand seen the impacts and damage caused by the flooding having visited Poza Rica, Veracruz to help with clean up. Many people are suffering due to water levels reaching between 8-9 ft high or higher. When driving through Poza Rica, the streets were piled with trash and unusable furniture and appliances. People have lost their lives and houses, with 16 dead in Hidalgo alone, and more being found. My time in Mexico has taught me quite a bit, but one thing is that the people here are extremely humble and giving, always welcoming me into their houses with open arms. I want to do my part as a way to thank the community by raising money to help support them as much as I can while they get theirselves back on their feet. I am asking anyone who is willing to support to donate, even if it is just $5; a little goes a long way.

These funds will be used by me to help buy cleaning supplies to distribute to families to aid cleanup of houses and given to families who are providing food and water to first hand supporters and the hard-hit communities. I got to experience and see how amazing Mexicans are in coming together to support their fellow citizens, driving from 3-4 hours away to be extra hands and relief to communities. While what these communities need more than ever is hands to help with cleanup, this money will also provide some aid to those helping to provide more food and other supplies to these communities.
