Hi I am a Soroptimist from Sunderland and we are working with different women's groups in the City to support their work helping disadvantaged women.

These groups do fabulous work with women from all walks of life who are disadvantaged because of their circumstances. We are working with WWiN, FODI and AL-Falaq Counselling on a project called Silent Voice: A Door to Safety.

Our aim is to make a door out of fabric pieces sewn together and each group is working on a number of panels. The door represents walking into a place of safety. It will be unveiled at Sunderland Minster on the 25th November to mark the 16 Days of Action, Orange the World, to raise awareness of the United Nations global campaign which asks us all to take a stand to end violence against women and girls.

Soroptimist International Sunderland have developed this idea to raise awareness of and hopefully funds for the organisations taking part. We have provided each group with the materials to make the panels but wish to use the activity of creating The Door to raise funds for the groups to continue their important work in Sunderland.
