100% VA Disabled Veteran Facing VA Loan Fraud & Hidden Home Damage
Hi. My name is Bridget.
In 2022, while I was on active duty and stationed out of state, I purchased a home using my VA loan — trusting the protections of a government-backed loan and the integrity of those involved in the process.
I am now a 100% disabled through the VA, medically retired U.S. Air Force veteran, and that trust has been deeply violated.
What I Found After Moving In
Shortly after moving in, I uncovered extensive, seemingly concealed damage that made the home unsafe — possibly uninhabitable:
- "Sealed-over" foundation breaches and wall damage
- Mold and long-term water intrusion behind walls and floors
- Rot hidden under newly installed carpeting
- Roofing defects and flashing failures
- Structural deterioration "fixed" with potentially cosmetic cover-ups
None of this was disclosed. Many of the repairs that were contractually agreed to were never completed, or were done improperly, with zero permitting or inspections.
I Did Everything Right
I followed every step required in the VA loan process. I had a home inspection, requested repairs for significant items, and signed all the right forms. When I noticed red flags, I even signed a termination notice.
But, my agent (as I have perceived it) pushed against it, and I was seemingly pressured to close.
After closing, I tried to get answers. The listing brokerage refused to provide key repair invoices and contractor records, claiming they had no responsibility to me.
The VA Failed Me Too
I contacted the VA Home Loan division for support. They told me they held no liability in the transaction.
Despite this being a VA-backed home purchase, and despite the VA's own Minimum Property Requirements, they failed to enforce their very own protections meant to "protect" veterans.
This Feels Predatory
I was an out-of-state, active-duty buyer — vulnerable and trusting. The people involved knew that. And the systems in place failed to protect me.
This isn't just a home with issues. It’s a chain of failures that left a disabled veteran with a broken house, legal dead ends, and nowhere to turn.
Why I'm Asking for Help
I'm raising funds to:
- Hire legal representation to hold the responsible parties accountable
- Pay for emergency repairs (mold remediation, structural fixes, roof replacement)
- Offset immediate costs from job disruption, mitigation, and legal prep
This Is Far Bigger Than Me
If this can happen to me — someone who followed every rule — it can happen to other veterans, too. I'm standing up not just to recover my home, but to speak out about how easily the system fails the very people it claims to protect.
As I move forward — legally, financially, and personally — I plan to share updates about what happens next.
I’m documenting this journey not just for myself, but for other veterans who could face the same thing. Whether it’s repair photos, legal milestones, or just honest updates, I want to be transparent about what this fight looks like.
I've turned on Auto-goal setting so it will make the current goal $12,000 and then once we hit that it will update the goal. With the overall goal being $47,500.
Thank you for being part of it.
Any donation, share, or word of encouragement means the world.
— Bridget
