Swallowing my pride, I am asking for a hand up—not a handout—as I face the very real possibility of losing my home.
My challenges began in 2020 when I lost my job due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Although I was able to secure employment in 2021, my financial situation worsened when my mortgage interest rate increased from 3.5% to 5.5% during refinancing. In late 2023, a change in mortgage ownership caused my rate to spike to 8.6%, putting my home at immediate risk of foreclosure. Earlier this year, my employer announced layoffs, and while I received a severance package, those funds were quickly depleted covering essential expenses. I am now living on my VA disability and unemployment benefits, trying to maintain the single-family home where I live alone with my service dog.
I have exhausted all other options, and my home is all I have left. I am doing everything I can to avoid homelessness while continuing to rebuild my life. The donations I receive will go directly toward catching up on mortgage payments and preventing the loss of my home. Any support, no matter the amount, would mean the world to me and my service dog.
