Hi my name is Elizabeth, and I'm raising funds for my father, Joe, to help him and my brother not pass through a cold winter with a damaged, leaking roof.
Joe is a disabled veteran who is living in the home I grew up in alongside my siblings and mother before she tragically passed away from cancer.
My dad is 66 years old. He joined the military at 17 years old (pictured above, on the left) and served our country from 1974-1980. He was injured in a parachute accident in 1976 at the young age of 19. On that same day, 5 of his close friends died after 3500 solders parachuted into a 60-mph hurricane.
(Below are pictures of Joe with his kids and his grandkids.)
Now the wind and weather are threatening his health and safety once again. His roof is damaged beyond the point where anyone should be living under it. There are water leaks everywhere, primarily in the kitchen, where the roof collapsed two weeks ago. He and my brother are now exposed to the cold and wet weather as the condition of the roof continues to deteriorate and dangerous mold spreads into other areas.
(Below is a picture of the damaged roof, that he has put tarps over to try and keep him and his son, Joey from being exposed, and further damaging the home.)

(The picture above is the interior damage from where the ceiling fell through from damage. There is mold that will also need to be taken care of once they are able to get a new roof put on.)
He has not been able to keep up with the maintenance of the old roof due to his disabilities and lack of funds. The roof damage was initially caused by a really bad storm last year. Home insurance refuses to pay for the damages. We have reached out to the VA, Habitat for Humanity and other non-profits. However he does not qualify for these programs because of his VA disability benefits, which are not enough to fully cover the costs of repairing or replacing the roof.
He is in desperate need of a new roof before winter officially sets in. My father and brother currently have no protection from the elements in their own home.
We are coming together as a community to get him the support he needs.
His roof is 1300 sq ft and we are hoping to raise the funds to get him a new roof and to fix the tragic damage that has already been done.
