My name is Prakash (aka KP), and I am a disabled veteran doing my best to support my wife and our 2-year-old daughter. Since August 2023, I have been unemployed and actively seeking and applying for jobs, but have been unable to secure a role. During this time, I have relied on a small monthly disability income and occasional freelance work, which just isn’t enough to cover our family’s needs. We recently moved from Dallas, TX to Portland, OR after being promised a job, but unfortunately, that opportunity fell through, leaving us with unexpected debts from the move.
On top of the usual cost of living, we are facing significant medical debt after my daughter was hospitalized twice for severe lung infections. Our financial situation has become even more challenging with our furnace breaking down just as winter approaches, and we simply don’t have the funds to repair or replace it. As a veteran, I am also dealing with several health issues, including PTSD, depression, a lower spinal injury, debilitating migraines, hearing loss that now requires hearing aids, sleep apnea that needs a CPAP, and constant tinnitus. The VA is helping, but it’s a lot to manage all at once.
We are reaching out for help because every part of this support is important for our family’s well-being. Any amount you can give would mean the world to us. Your kindness and generosity will help us get back on our feet and provide much-needed stability for my family. Thank you so much for considering our situation and for any support you can offer.
How your support will help:
- Medical debt from my daughter's hospitalizations
- Cost of moving and related debts
- Ongoing living expenses
- Furnace repair costs before winter
