Hello, my name is Susannah Perri and I am raising funds to help pay for a life-saving surgery for my sister Beverly Rial's dog Susie. Beverly is a disabled senior who has been hospitalized since August 4, 2021 after unexpected complications from two surgeries. Although she has greatly improved, she will be in a skilled nursing facility for at least the next month. When she went into the hospital I brought her sweet little Shih-Tzu/Poodle dog Susie home with me to take care of while Beverly is recovering. Despite being 12 years old, Susie is filled with energy and enthusiasm for life and especially for people! When I take her on walks people go out of their way to pet and visit with her as she runs up to them with her tail wagging! She runs so fast people are shocked when I tell them she is not a puppy!
A couple of weeks ago I took Susie to my vet to check on an itch she had been having. Upon examination, the vet discovered Susie has an early-stage anal sac tumor. I paid for that visit and for followup blood work and an ultrasound to determine if the tumor has spread into her stomach or lungs. Fortunately, this was caught very early and no spreading was detected. Dr. Berkley referred to a veterinary surgeon, Dr. James Farese, who examined Susie this morning and gave me an excellent prognosis. If the tumor is removed soon, Susie should be fine and has a great chance to continue living a happy, healthy life for several years. Her breed often lives to be 16 years old! If the tumor is not removed it wil most likely metastasize and Susie will have pain and would not live more than a few months before having to be put down. At this point Susie does not even know anything is wrong with her. She is so filled with life and love (and a huge appetite!) that we cannot imagine not having the surgery and giving her more years of this life she loves so much. The devastating news is that the bill for the surgery, facility, anesthesia and medication and followup visits will be between $4,700-$5,100. Beverly is 76 and a widow, with only her Social Security to live on. She has a small amount of money she is able to put towards Susie's surgery and my husband Mark and I can pitch in too, but so far we can only come up with about half the cost. Not only has she been in the hospital since August 4th, she hasn't seen Susie in all this time, so it's especially hard for her to hear that Susie is sick and needs surgery. Bevy has lots of friends and family and I am reaching out to ask if anyone is able and willing to contribute a little bit to the cost of Susie's surgery so that when Beverly finally comes home she will have her happy little tail-wagging Susie waiting for her. We would be so grateful to everyone who is able to help with any amount to help defray this cost.
Thank you so much, Susannah
