** UPDATE 01.23.26 **
Due to a mishap on my side. I didn't see that additional verification was needed for this gofundme. Because of my oversight, anyone who donated in exchange for baked goods or out of pure kindness has been refunded. I understand that money is tight for all of us right now, but if you're financially able, we hope you consider donating your refund back to the gofundme and continue to support Percy in his journey to recovery. <3
We've still had no success getting a response from any rescues within Lane County, and have been asked to remain patient.
Last week, Percy had an ECG done at Cascade Animal Clinic and they said his heart sounds good and gave the OK to proceed with getting him fixed. Percy is scheduled to be neutered 01.30.26, and we hope this will help him calm down and be less aggressive towards other cats.
We had a wonderfully successful bake sale in December that made it possible for Percy to see an Opthalmologist at OVRA! They determined that he has degenerative eye disease and they don't expect his vision to get any better or worse. Since he has a tear on one of his eyelids, he's now receiving lubricating eye drops every day to prevent another eye ulcer from forming.
** UPDATE **
I apologize for the time between updates! We've raised enough to take Percy to a neurologist at Dove Lewis in Portland. They determined his shakes to be a movement disorder rather than seizures and believe they were as bad as they were due to how malnourished he was. Due to this, the neurologist had us ween him off of his seizure medication and focus on supplementing his doet with extra vitamins. Since in our care, Percy has gained 1.5 pounds! He's a happy chunky boy and looking great! The specialist advised of a few procedures they'd like to see him get done. The most important of which is an ultrasound on his kidneys and an Opthalmologist for his eyes.
On Thanksgiving day, we ended up back at Wilvet South. One of his pupils was much smaller than the other. Luckily, after running tests this turned out to be an eye ulcer that he got two prescribed eye drops for. His eye has completely healed now.
On the 12th and 13th of December, we will be doing a bake sale to raise funds for Percy's procedures. We'll be at the Mckenzie Feed and Tackle in Walterville as part of the Christmas Bazaar. Wish us luck!
** UPDATE **
Mr Percy is doing well! While he's still on antiseizure medication, he's still having episodes and is going to see a specialist on the 21st. Cascade wants him to get an MRI se we can see if there is something neurological going on. Even for cats, MRI's are very expensive. We've submitted Percy's Photo in the Americas Favorite Photo competition and encourage you to vote for him! As of today, he's 2nd in the quarterfinal round and needs to remain in the top two to move on to the semifinals. We're also still selling baked goods and my office has been a godsend and always purchasing my goodies to help with the fundraiser.
** UPDATE **
Percy's PCR has come back positive. But as mentioned below, this is very manageable with low transmission. He's doing much better on his antiseizure medication. Please reach out if you'd like to meet Percy and see if he's your forever kitty
** UPDATE **
We didn't hear back today about the PCR test but they said tomorrow. Percy has started treatment for focal seizures and his stool is being checked for toxoplasmosis.
** UPDATE **
We'll find out tomorrow if Percy is FIV+.
In the meantime, he's still experiencing muscle spasms that we're looking into medication for.
** UPDATE **
Percy still his minor tremors. Vet could like to do a biopsy on his lymph node to rule out anything systemic.
** UPDATE **
Mr Percy had his first vet exam today. He's doing great! A second FIV test was ran and came back negative so he will be getting a PCR test to verify his true status. Blood work looks great! The vet thinks he has some peripheral sight after exam.
Hello everyone and thank you for taking the time to read about Percy. I'm reaching out to the community for help with the emergency and aftercare for this little guy. He was rescued from the streets, partially blind and has a torn eyelid. Greenhill estimated him to be maybe 5 years old. Due to the struggle of being able to protect himself and finding food or water, he was very rough looking and lethargic. He had a large abscess on his neck and accompanying tremors with a fever. While Greenhill was able to lance this abscess, he needed additional treatment at Wilvet that included antibiotics, pain medicine, fluids, labs, flushing of the abscess and x-rays to assess his overall condition since he has no history. The blood tests determined he is FIV positive and his other labs looked great! While many have assumed FIV to be a death sentence, the vet advised he can live a very full, long and happy life. He will just be more susceptible to getting sick if around sickness. Similar to humans with autoimmune disorders, he just needs someone looking after his health since he can't phone the doctor himself. We're looking for someone who will keep that in mind, and that a vet visit may be necessary if he gets the sniffles. FIV can be transmitted by infected blood or saliva getting into another cats blood stream. Its highly unlikely to spread through the sharing of water bowls, food bowls, etc. Please do your due diligence and research if you are unfamiliar.
Due to the condition he was in, he couldn't wait for a regular vet visit and needed emergency treatment. As mentioned above, Percy received this care at Wilvet South. We will be fostering him until he is healed and we find his forever family. While he's in our care, we've scheduled his first appointment to establish a primary vet at Cascade Animal Clinic in Springfield. They've been wonderful with helping us navigate how to help him from the start and they're already in love with him! We have a low edge litter box with litter attractant and a cat water fountain that helps him find these places easier. We've purchased some toys and will be looking into more sensory specific ones among many other things to start this sweet boy on his happy journey. All funds donated for him, will go towards his emergency treatment, vet visits, neuter, prescriptions, food, etc.
I plan to add status updates and photos as I'm able.
Thank you for taking the time to hear Percy's story! ❤️
