Help me uplift disabled and chronically ill writers, stories, and representation!
I am deeply humbled by the opportunity to compile, edit, and illustrate 14 stories by authors around the world.
Disabled creatives face many barriers to entry into the publishing world, and our stories are often dismissed, erased, and told by people outside of our community. Statistics show that although around 20-25% of the world's population is disabled, we often make up less than 4% of traditionally published stories... if we're even counted in surveys at all.
In an effort to uplift and support creatives who have disabilities and/or chronic illnesses (mental health and neurodivergent inclusive), I am fundraising and investing labour into creating collections of stories that help us feel heard and seen, and show that we need and deserve space in the literary landscape!
Dystopian is a compelling genre that marginalised people are often missing from or are the first to die in. In this anthology, I’d like to showcase the thousands of ways disabled and chronically ill communities band together to do mutual aid, fundraise, create mask blocs, and advocate for more equitable access for everyone.
But... publishing ain't cheap. Printers demand money, editing is labour, and books don’t just magically appear like your lost socks at the back of your dryer (though that would be nice!).
I need your help to make this dream a reality!
Every dollar you donate helps ensure these brilliant voices, stories, and perspectives don't just fade into the ether. Furthermore, any and all sales of these anthologies roll onto the next one, which means we should hopefully need less funding in the future!
These funds will:
- Help me publish a complete anthology of 14 stories from 14 authors around the world, all from different disability and chronic illness perspectives.
- Help me pay each author for their work. Did you know that in many countries around the world, disabled people like me are legally allowed to be paid less than minimum wage? Sometimes even less than a dollar an hour! Disability-focussed magazines and journals also struggle to pay authors pro-rates.
- Help me host disability & storytelling discussions, creating resources for everyone to be brave and create, and helping non-disabled authors write more inclusively.
We've had one amazing success already!
On Janruary 25, 2025 the disability in fantasy anthology anthology ARTIFICE & ACCESS released! I'm super proud of all the authors and the stories in this collection.
We've received wonderful reviews, and this project has meant so much to me. Hearing from people who have loved this anthology and seen themselves in the stories for the first time has been the privilege and biggest joy of my life.
