It is owned by friends and business partners, Dave and Vicky, and we manage it in our spare time, usually fitting it in in the evenings and around other individual work and family commitments.
We are currently able to continue to provide the service for free by accepting monetary donations from people who have benefited from using the service, by accepting donated disability equipment that we sell on to generate a small income and by offering Advertiles (advertising space) on our website.
These donations also allow us to raise funds for our nominated charity, currently Support Dogs, a charity that provide, train and support assistance dog partnerships for people with autism, epilepsy and physical disabilities. We have already raised £2000 for Support Dogs and have sponsored our first annual partnership and we’re well on the way to sponsoring our next Support Dog partnership.
Up until January 2019 we had been supporting Guide Dogs and, during the 3 and a half years of supporting them, had been able to raised £10,000 and name and sponsor 2 puppies through their first year of training. We called our first sponsored Guide Dog puppy ‘Des’ after our service. Our second Guide Dog puppy, who has recently started his first year of training, we called Errol in memory of Dave's late guide dog who was sadly put to sleep in June 2017 after being diagnosed with terminal cancer.
Since April 2019 we've, due to various reasons, had to scale back the service. This has meant that we can now only accept donations of small equipment from our local area and continue to monitor and administer the website and answer telephone and email inquiries. This has resulted in our income dropping to a point where we are just covering our outgoings to keep the service running.
We need to update the design of the website to make it responsive to mobile devices as well as switch our email host to further streamline the email communications process for our customers. In addition, we're using a very old mobile phone that isn't now being updated and would love to be able to update this to a later model (this needs to be accessible for Dave to use so not as easy as buying a cheap handset).
We are keen to ensure that the service continues to grow and, most importantly, keep it free to use for everyone but we can now only do this with some financial support from you.
All donations are gratefully received and will go directly towards the development of the service and a replacement mobile phone. If we're so lucky, any additional funds will be allocated to the ongoing running costs of the service.
