My name is Erin, and this is Dirty Dan. We took him in from someone to help and got a lot more than we bargained for. He’s a 10 year old miniature dachshund with lots of personality and snuggles to go around. He has so much life in him and is the sweetest little thing.
We were told his only medical issues were some missing teeth. That however was just the tip of the iceberg. We took him to the vet and it became apparent to them that he had not been in quite some time. His overall health is great other than his mouth. I noticed his breath smelled like death when we first got him…and that is because his teeth are infected and he has holes in the sockets of the missing teeth that burrow into his sinus cavity. He has a hard time eating dry food, even when we put water on it to soften it, so he’s on a wet food diet (and I’m sure that just breaks his heart lol). But even with wet food, any time he eats or drinks, particles get up into his sinuses through those holes and cause discomfort and irritation and he has sneezing fits. He has two of those holes and a third forming. The vet was very thankful that we took him in and are giving him a fighting chance, so they’re willing to give us a 10% discount on his services since we didn’t ask for this and we aren’t the ones that neglected this poor baby. To get his vaccines up to date and to have surgery to fix his mouth, we’re looking at about $2500-$3000.
He’s on antibiotics for his infection and we can keep him on those monthly for up to six months while we try to allocate the funds to help Dirty Dan. He’s very worth it and we appreciate all the help we can get for this little guy.
