Today, 1 in 68 babies are diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder and the number continues to rise yearly. Sadly, most families are given no choice. The DIR/ Floortime Coalition is working to get the word out to families and to change the laws. Doctors should be able to freely prescribe the best treatment approach! Families should be able to get insurance coverage for the treatment their doctor prescribes. Most families never even hear about evidence-based treatments that are person-centered and relationship-based. The DIR/Floortime Coalition of California is a non-profit volunteer organization made up of parents and professionals dedicated to the education of: California lawmakers, funding agencies, policy makers, and community members about creating access to doctor-prescribed treatment approaches for each patient and about parental right to choose developmental, play-based, family-centered treatment for autism and other developmental disabilities.  Sign up for occasional news of our legislative progress here:

As the President of the non-profit Coalition, a treating clinical psychologist, and the founder/director of a treatment and professional training center , I have personally seen hundreds of children and teens and their families deeply changed by receiving a developmental, relationship-based approach to treatment! Children and teens can become more expressive, creative, empathic, and joyful. Families achieve more understanding and close connection. On the other hand, I have also seen the sorrow and despair in families who either didn't hear about this approach early enough, were told there is only one way to treat autism using behaviorism, or who cannot get funding for developmental treatment. This is why I work daily with parents and professionals on our non-profit in an effort to get out the word and to change the laws!
