My name is Andre Woolery, a Jamaican American with deep roots across the island — family, loved ones, and lifelong friends who have been devastated by Hurricane Melissa.
Right now, much of Jamaica remains without power, internet, or reliable phone service. Farms and gardens have been destroyed, schools are closed, and entire neighborhoods are struggling to recover. Families are sleeping under tarps, sharing candlelight at night, and trying to rebuild one nail, one meal, one day at a time.
Why I Started This Fund
In the days after the hurricane, I felt helpless watching the devastation from afar while hearing from loved ones who had lost everything. Big organizations will eventually step in but everyday people need help now.
I decided to start this GoFundMe because I can directly reach trusted friends and community members across Jamaica who are already helping on the ground. With your support, I can get funds and supplies into their hands quickly, so families don’t have to wait weeks for relief.
This is my way of standing in solidarity. One Jamaican helping another, with the support of our global family.
What’s Happening on the Ground
In the weeks since the storm, I’ve been in contact with loved ones and community members assessing what people truly need to recover. The most urgent and consistent needs are:
- Home repairs: roofing, lumber, nails, cement, and paid local labor
- Power & light: gas for generators, and generators for families and schools
- Basic comforts: mattresses, sheets, and home essentials for those displaced
- Food & water: safe meals and supplies for families who lost everything
- Education recovery: generators and repairs to help schools reopen
Our Direct Approach
This campaign focuses on direct support. We are working through trusted local friends who own hardware stores to provide immediate supplies to families who cannot afford them. We will pay carpenters, masons, and laborers to repair homes and schools. We will provide store credit and materials to families in need. We will supply fuel and essentials to my local community schools.
Every dollar raised goes directly toward helping Jamaican families rebuild safely and restore dignity to their homes.
