Directly Support Incarcerated Firefighters

Donation protected
By now, most of us are aware of the many incarcerated firefighters battling the LA fires and how they receive just $10.24 per day for their service. Though I've seen funds set up to support the programs these firefighters are involved in, I couldn't find one that compensates them DIRECTLY and INDIVIDUALLY.

Through IG stalking, I've come into contact with some family members of a few incarcerated firefighters--mostly youth (19-24) from Pine Grove Youth Conservation Camp outside of Sacramento.

All the proceeds of this page will be divided equally amongst the firefighters on my list and deposited directly into their commissary to do with as they like (as anyone does with the money they receive from working).

The Pine Grove youth firefighters have been deployed to LA, working the normal firefighter shifts of 24hrs on/24hrs off in extremely rough conditions. However, overtime--especially in these emergencies situations--is not abnormal, meaning some firefighters are pulling 48hr shifts (including the youth, according to a mother of one the young firefighters).

As the daughter of a fire captain who fought forest fires on the west coast most summers, I know how grueling and dangerous these fires can be. According to one mom I spoke to, thankfully, these younger firefighters are mostly not on the front lines--they are cleaning up after fires and putting some out--but they're just behind LAFD and the more experienced incarcerated firefighters who they fight alongside. ALL of this work in these conditions is unbelievably depleting physically, emotionally, and mentally. They deserve to be compensated as fairly as possible for this heroic work.

So far, I have 15 firefighters (the eldest being 28yo) though I'll keep adding to the list as I find more. My goal is to max out each of their $300 monthly commissary limits. Please feel free to send me the info of any incarcerated firefighters or their family so I can more firefighters on this list!

Stay safe,
Emma
