Opera Festival Directing Tuition!

Hi everyone!

 

My name is Abby (she/her), and I am an early career theatre director, arts administrator, and consent educator based out of Philadelphia, PA. My directing work is guided by a fierce respect for the talent of all my collaborators, curiosity, and a desire to investigate the worth of classical works in our modern world.

 

I have been offered an exciting opportunity with the Vocal Academy of Opera Bodrum to study opera directing this summer. This program would afford me the opportunity to work with and learn from an international community of young artists in Turkey this summer. Because the goals of their program include investment in young artists, VAO Bodrum has agreed to accept me into the program this summer with reduced tuition, plus whatever I am able to raise to attend - which is where you all come in! (But also, let's pay artists more in general so they can afford to pursue professional development opportunities without having to crowdfund.)

I am offering some pay-what-you-decide services in exchange for your help covering tuition! The suggested donations are just that - suggested! This time in Turkey will be instrumental to the growth of my career. As we pivot again towards in person performances following the pandemic, it is harder than ever for young directors to have the opportunity to work with performers in person, especially with mentorship like this available. While at VAO Bodrum, I will have the opportunity to direct a chamber opera, La Serva Patrona, as well as assistant direct Carmen and attend personalized classes dedicated to my specific areas of growth. I will also have the opportunity to work on intimacy choreography for Carmen, and teach workshops on consent with the aim of helping my fellow attendees build skills to advocate for their safety and well-being as performers.
