Donate to Mi Casa Es Tu Casa: a solidarity fund, giving emergency grants to families severely affected by the earthquakes in Venezuela.
Weeks after the devastating earthquakes in Venezuela, 50,000 people are estimated to be missing, 5,000 dead and over 21,000 are living in shelters.
Humanitarian aid has focused on providing urgent assistance to meet basic needs —nonperishable food, prepared meals, water and hygiene supplies, and primary health care. But there are many more daily needs that are not being met. Needs that are wide-ranging, critical, personal, and that people could address themselves if they had access to some funds.
Therefore we are focusing on providing one-off emergency grants to families heavily impacted by the earthquakes. Our objective is that each household can solve their most urgent needs and can be in a better position to sustain themselves.
Financial aid also has the added benefit of stimulating the local economy.
How it works:
The grants are being distributed by on-the-ground organisers in Caracas, who have direct links with the affected communities through their work with news agencies and NGOs. They are identifying families in vulnerable situations for whom this support could be of great assistance, and assessing them according to an established priority criteria.
If families meet the criteria they will be given a direct grant of USD 150 to 200.
We will use the funds raised in this way, and continue to fundraise so we can support more families. As soon as we collect enough funds for a grant, we will distribute them to the next family.
As a community-led group, we don’t have overhead costs so every pound raised goes directly to supporting people.
Examples of what the grants could be used for:
- Transport to go from La Guaira to Caracas to work: USD 10 per return journey. USD 200 for 20 working days in a month.
- Burial grounds plot - USD 150 - 200
- Repairing water pipes in a house - USD 100 for materials + USD 50 for labour
- Chronic health medicines - USD 200

About us:
Mi casa es tu casa is a campaign by Rebuilding hope. An organisation created by Venezuelan organisers, journalists and citizens in Venezuela and abroad. We are collaborating with Apoyo Comunitario, a similar solidarity initiative that during the COVID 19 pandemic raised more than £30,000 which were distributed directly to over 70 families throughout the pandemic.
We believe direct solidarity support is essential, and we hope that you can help deliver it in Venezuela.
