Dippy Club is a story of sloppy adolescence. The enticement of young love and the reality of getting caught up in something that moves too fast.

STORY

Dippy Club is a tale as old as time, but often unaddressed is the reality that an impulsive sexual encounter between teens is a far cry from the imagined or desired romantic rendezvous that preoccupies most adolescent fantasies. Genny attends a Christian summer camp and experiences her first crush and fleeting physical encounter with an older boy. The stars in her eyes do not match the reality of musty sheds and selfish teenagers.

WHAT THIS STORY MEANS TO ME - A NOTE FROM THE DIRECTOR

After working in the film industry for over a decade, I’ve repeatedly gone over what my place is, my voice, and what sort of stories I want to tell.

Much of my twenties was spent reckoning with things I didn’t fully understand, experiences in which I had no license or control, and times I had felt I had misstepped or done wrong. That constant rumination revolved around a younger Jenelle. The insecurity, uncertainty, and eagerness that youth brings.

Dippy Club is not only the culmination of years of learning, failing, and pushing to be a filmmaker, but also the emotional labor I have done to become an adult and a woman.

THE LOOK AND FEEL - Summer Camp in Colorado

The Rockies where I grew up are dotted with camp after camp that middle and high schoolers flock to the second classes end. Packed log cabins, lakes that never quite get warm enough, sun peaking over mountains on a dewy morning, pranks and roughhousing, and meaningful formative relationships. Dippy Club would not be complete without the backdrop of Colorado.
