Dip a Day: Cold Water Challenge
In memory of my cousin Fiona
(February 9th, 1968 - August 9th, 1975).
My name is Moira.
I'm doing the Dip a Day: Cold Water Challenge for Young Lives vs Cancer.
I aim to be doing a dip in the sea every day in December. Any days I can't get in the sea I'm willing to have several buckets of cold water tipped over me. If you wish to donate and drench me, you can. I can't always get in the sea because high tides in December can be in the dark with there being less hours of daylight. I am also awaiting an operation in my right arm, but there is no date set for that yet. I've been waiting over a year for that.
I'll always be in swimwear, no wetsuit etc, so there will be no protection from the cold water. Sea water just now is around 6 or 7C, it will get colder.
I'm doing this in memory of my cousin Fiona, who died aged just 7 1/2 in 1975, from myeloid leukaemia.
In 1975, bone marrow transplants were not as advanced as now, myself or a relative could have had it in us to save her life. Fiona was diagnosed just 3 months after starting school. I don't have any photos of her.
