Diosi's Medical Recovery Fund

Hey, my name is Diosi & I was recently diagnosed with shingles & subsequently hospitalized. The infections blisters spread across my scalp, face, & eyelid causing a hospital stay and leaving me incapacitated by postherpetic neuralgia due to the underlying nerve damage in my skin. I am initially asking for US$18k to help with financially recovering from hospital bills, lost wages, rent, continued doctors visits, & prescriptions. Any donation is welcome as my team of doctors have informed me that I may have another flare up at any time and the nerve damage could take a few months to several years to fully recover from.

After talking to multiple doctors no one knows what caused me to catch shingles at the young age of 26. The virus typically targets people over 50 or those with immune system disorders. In my case of shingles the virus was properly identified & medication started within the first 3 days. Unfortunately the dosage was not strong enough & the shingles were too aggressive to fight the virus at home. After my eye was fully swollen shut & a visit to the emergency room I was ordered to be hospitalized.

Here's a play by play of my shingles experience so far starting with the my first inkling and ending with me being sent home as an outpatient:

6/14: Breakout on forehead, noticed small bumps

6/15: Forehead & scalp felt like I was sliced by razor blades, sinuses inflamed

6/16: Rash outbreak begins to blister, spreads to eye lid

6/17: Talked to Dr via virtual appointment, diagnosed with Shingles. Started medications

6/18: Eyelid swollen, can only open for seconds at a time. Mild heat flashes.

6/19: Eye completely swollen shut major heat flashes. Lymph nodes are swollen. Went to urgent care

6/20-21: Admitted to hospital. tripled dosages on IV, morphine, steroids, etc. They wanted to do a spinal tap because they thought it infected my brain due to my level of fatigue [I avoided that]. Tear duct falls off. Sweating from heat flashes caused dye from my hair to dye my sheets blue.

I went through a few bedding sets... I guess you can say... I blue it... please donate!

6/22: Swelling begins to drop, eye able to be opened manually by nurses, blisters popping. Starts antiviral eye ointment

6/23: Eye opens more but I can't control it. Started capsaicin face cream.

6/24: I can open my eye myself. Sent home to recover as an outpatient

Surprisingly, the hospital wasn't the scariest part!!! I'm still under constant watch in recovery mode battling nerve damage & haven't been able to sweat, lift anything more than 10lbs, be in direct sunlight, look at bright lights, or let anything touch my head/face.

Over the weeks I've focused my energy on healing & relaxing. While the blisters & rash started going down symptoms of the nerve damage they left behind started to rise up. The nerve damage developed into several shimmering sensations, a face twitch, a nerve itch that caused me to uncontrollably scratch off my scabs & some of my scalp in my sleep, & lancing pains that caused murderous amounts of pain which knocked me out for hours. I'm grateful for the recovery of my face skin & excited to see if these dark spots go away or if I have a cool new scar.

Here’s a list of recent nerve sensations:

1- Someone forcing a hot skewer through my pupil then pulling it out & my eye falling out & dripping into my hand [lasts about 15 seconds total (2 seconds of warning feeling time) I lose complete control, go into the fetal position, tears run down my face, & I scream at the top of my lungs for help & someone to hold me until its over. My caretaker has to turn me over, prop me up, then rub & soothe me back to normal. When the pain is over I pass out for a couple of hours.

2- Rash area is numb [constant]

3- Rash area is prickly like its asleep [constant]

4- Rash area is covered in centipedes [when ointment is wearing off or when its not on my face] (must change ointment 2 or 3 times a day)

5- Pressure like my head is about to explode

6- I can feel air exhaling through my eye [I think that's when my eye is dry]

7- A single drop of water [feels like it just started raining or someone spit on me].

All doctors have repeatedly told me that they do not know why I got shingles or when my nerve damage will go away. The doctors have also told me that the virus may have been triggered by stress & that the nerve pain in my face and scalp may trigger my chronic leg nerve pain. While the virus has subsided it still lays dormant in my body ready to flare up at any moment and the nerve damage has an estimated recovery time of 6 weeks to 4 years.

While all of this has been happening I’ve had to pay for rent & bills while also losing wages and racking up hospital bills & expenses from my outpatient recovery. I am initially asking for US$18k to help with financially recovering from this situation.

Getting shingles on my head has definitely been one of the most scary, brutal, & unexpected medical anomalies of my life. My journey is far from over because it could literally happen again at any point. I'm very thankful that I still have my vision & that I did not get covid while I was at the hospital. I am more thankful for my support group of family & friends. Your donations and get well wishes honestly help me so much thank you!
